Hong Shaopei, artist, born in 1979 in Taiwan, China. He currently works and lives in Beijing. He graduated from Taipei Normal University with a bachelor’s degree in Art and Art Education in 2007.
Hong Shaopei has long delved into the essence of painting by layering acrylic paint, aiming to expand the possibilities of painting from traditional two-dimensional space to a three-dimensional presentation. The stacked and constantly reshaped paint forms a three-dimensional surface, transforming flat paintings into three-dimensional ones.
His major solo exhibitions include: “The Weight of Time,” Zhenbao Art Space, Shanghai (2023); “Something or Nothing,” Beijing Now Gallery, Beijing (2018); “Hong Shaopei Solo Exhibition,” Beijing Now Gallery, Beijing (2017); “Painting in Time,” Beijing Now Gallery, Beijing (2015).
His works are part of the permanent collections of several art institutions, including BAO Collection (Shanghai), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles), White Rabbit Gallery (Sydney), Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (Taichung), First Commercial Bank (Taipei), Yuz Museum (Shanghai), How Art Museum (Shanghai), A4 Art Museum (Chengdu), and the Chen Chi Chuan Art and Culture Foundation (Kaohsiung).
