UNITE Charm Project

PETA x ACRYLISM

We’ve partnered with PETA Asia to further develop the “NO MERCY NO GRACE” project, bringing together artistic practice and animal advocacy. By drawing on the strengths of both sides, the collaboration expands the project’s public reach and impact.

PETA entities have more than 10.4 million members and supporters globally. PETA Asia is dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals. It operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way and focuses on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment business. It also works on a variety of other issues, including spaying and neutering and the killing of “pests.”

PETA Asia works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.

Located in Hong Kong, PETA Asia is the base for animal-rights campaigns across Asia, a region that is home to more than one-third of the world’s population.

NO MERCY NO GRACE

“NO MERCY NO GRACE” suggests that when compassion for the vulnerable is lost, so too are spiritual cultivation, moral character, and any true sense of civilization.

We chose mercy and grace because these two words point to different layers of human capacity: mercy to the moral ground level, and grace to the higher realm of spiritual refinement.

Mercy is not merely “sympathy.” It is the human capacity, when facing those who are weaker, to restrain power, to cease harm, and to preserve the dignity of others. It is the lowest threshold of civilization: only when one is willing to show compassion to lives that cannot resist can one truly be considered human.

Grace is not simply “elegance.” It refers to spiritual sophistication, moral ease, and a higher order of character. It implies a conscious choice of elevated values—not merely obeying rules or acting rationally, but holding oneself to a higher standard.

“NO MERCY NO GRACE” is highly abstract and universally applicable. It extends across issues of social justice, human rights and vulnerable communities, child protection, animal welfare, vegetarian advocacy, environmental concerns, and anti-war, anti-violence discourse.

We invite creative practitioners to photograph and share the charm worldwide.
